ROCK HILL, SC – First-year head women's soccer coach Spencer Smith has announced the signing of six players to play for Winthrop in the upcoming 2010 season.
The 2010 class will consist of players from the states of Georgia, Virginia, Texas, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
"We're excited about the six incoming players," said assistant coach Johnathan Brabson. "Many of these kids have competed at a high level and will add quality depth to our program for the 2010 season."
The signing class includes Holly Brooks, from Newnam, GA, Kelly Clark, from Manassas, VA, Caroline "Coco" Myers, from Keller, TX, Megan Pritts from Middletown, MD, Anna Sammons, from Snellville, GA, and Kjersti Traaen, from Carlisle, PA.
Brooks is a defender from Northgate High School and played club soccer for Cobb Futbol. She was a member of the Northgate varsity soccer team all four years in high school and finished runner-up in the state playoffs for the 2009 season. Brooks was a member of the 2008 squad which won the county championship. Her club team participated in events such as the Orange Classic in Florida, Athena "A", the State Cup in Georgia, Nike Cup and Germantown.
Clark is a midfielder from Osbourn Park High School and played club soccer for the Vista Fury and Arlington Pride. Clark earned multiple honors in 2009 as she was named to the Cedar Run All-District First Team, All-Northwest Region Second Team and All-Area Second Team. In 2008, she was a member of the Potomac Memorial Championship team and the WAGS Division Champions. Clark was also on the WAGS Division I Championship squad in 2006 as well as the Virginia Beach Sun Cup Champions, PWSI Invitational Champions and USYSA Region I Premier League South Division Runner-Up. She was a part of the WAGS Divison I Champions in 2005 to go along with the Potomac Memorial Day Champions and Jefferson Cup Champions. Clark was named captain for the Vista Fury and participated on the 2007 State Cup Championship squad, while playing in the State Cup Finals in 2005 and 2008.
Myers is a forward/midfielder from Keller High School and played club soccer for DFW Tejanos Premier 92 from 2002-2007 and Solar 92 since 2008. She has been a starter on the varsity soccer team since her sophomore season and was named AAAAA All-District in 2008 and 2009. Myers also earned JV Soccer Offensive MVP honors during her freshman campaign, while that squad won the District Championship. She was on several club championship teams for DFW Tejanos Premier including the 2002 and 2003 Puma Cup Champions, and the 2003 Austin Labor Day Cup Champions. The 2005 squad won the Disney Showcase Championship and in 2008 made it to the semi-finals of the State Cup.
Pritts is a midfielder from Middletown High School and played club soccer for FC Frederick. She was a four-year starter for Middletown and was named captain during her senior season. Pritts earned First Team All-Area honors in 2008 and 2009, while being named Second Team Maryland All-State in 2009. She was also First Team MVAL from 2007-2009. Playing for FC Frederick, Pritts was named to the Region I Team in 2009 and was a member of the 2008 Colonial League Championship team. She also participated in the 2008 Disney Showcase.
Sammons is a center-back from Brookwood High School and played club soccer for the Gwinnet Soccer Association. She was named a Scholar-Athlete at Brookwood in 2007 and 2010. Her 2009 club team went undefeated at the 2009 National Championships and were the Region III Champions. The Gwinnett Soccer Association are also five-time Georgia State Champions.
Traaen is a center-back from Cumberland Valley High School and played club soccer for the Hershey Attack. She was name to the Cumberland Valley High School All-Tournament Team in 2007 and was part of the Pennsylvania State Cup Champions in 2007 and 2009. Traaen participated on the 2006 Score at the Shore Championship team and the 2005 U13 Hawaii ODP Team. She was also a member of five more championship squads from 2006-2007.
