Men's Tennis Drops To Central Florida 4-3

The Eagles Will Play Their First Conference Match At 2 p.m.

ATLANTA, GA — The Winthrop men's tennis team lost to Central Florida 4-3 on Sunday in Atlanta, GA. The Eagles are 2-7 in the season.

 

Winthrop started ahead in the scoreboard as it won two of the three doubles matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, Daniel Daudt and Sergey Belov beat Marc Rocafort and Blaze Schwartz 9-8, while Guy Kubi and Nadav Ruppin defeated Delinks and Johan Beigart 9-8 in the No. 2 doubles match.

 

In singles play, the Eagles won two matches. In the No. 5 singles match, Levy beat Beigart 6-4, 6-2, while Kubi defeated Eugene Dolgovykh 6-1, 7-6 in the No. 6 singles match.

 

“It's disappointing to have lost one more match in the season I thought we should have won," head coach Cid Carvalho said. “Hopefully, we will start doing better for the remaining of the season. Give credit to Central Florida for having fought very hard in singles after losing the doubles point.”

 

The Eagles will be back in action at 2 p.m. Wednesday as they face Presbyterian College at the Memorial Courts for their first conference match of the season.
