Men's Tennis Defeats Georgia State 4-3

The Eagles WIll Be Back In Action Tomorrow At 10 A.M. Against Central Florida

ATLANTA, GA — The Winthrop men's tennis team beat Georgia State 4-3 on Saturday in Atlanta, GA. The Eagles are 2-6 in the season.

 

Winthrop started ahead in the scoreboard as it won two of the three doubles matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, Daniel Daudt and Sergey Belov beat Jackson Moore and Juan Gutierrez 8-4, while Liran Levy and Dejon Bivens defeated Trenton Spinks and Lucas Santana 8-6 in the No. 3 doubles match.

 

In singles play, the Eagles won three matches. In the No. 3 singles match, Nadav Ruppin defeated Henri Mangin 6-3, 6-4, while Levy beat Gutierrez in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles match. In the No. 6 singles match, Guy Kubi defeated Spinks 6-4, 6-4.

 

“I am really proud of our guys for pulling out a hard fought victory today,” assistant coach Andrew Stubs said. “It feels great to be on the winning end of one of these close matches. We play some of our best doubles of the year today. Georgia State came back and competed extremely hard in the singles, but our guys stayed tough and were able to pull it out. This win gives us some good confidence as we look forward to a tough match with #75 Central Florida tomorrow."

 

The Eagles will be back in action at 10 a.m. Sunday as they face Central Florida in Atlanta, GA.
