Men's Tennis Defeats Hampton 6-1

The Eagles Will Be Back In Action Tomorrow At 10 A.M. Against Charlotte

ROCK HILL, SC — The Winthrop men's tennis team beat Hampton University 6-1 on Friday at the Memorial Courts. The Eagles are 4-10 in the season and 1-0 in conference play.

 

Winthrop started ahead in the scoreboard as it won all three doubles. In the No. 1 doubles match, Daniel Daudt and Sergey Belov beat Nelio Mattos and Gellert Varga 8-6, while Guy Kubi and Nadav Ruppin defeated Kenneth Green and Marcelo Reda 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles match. In the No. 3 doubles match, Liran Levy and Preetham Moras beat Alvin Fludd and Edson Alves 8-1.

 

In singles play, the Eagles won five matches. In the No. 1 singles match, Belov defeated Mattos 6-3, 6-0, while Ruppin did not lose a single game as he beat Green 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles match. In the No. 4 singles match, Levy defeated Alves 6-2, 6-4, while Kubi had no trouble beating Fludd 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles match. In the No. 6 singles match, Daudt defeated Reda also in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

 

“I'm proud of my players the way they bounced back from yesterday's match,” head coach Cid Carvalho said. “They played with good intensity throughout the match. Hopefully, we can keep it up for tomorrow's match against Charlotte.”

 

The Eagles will be back in action at 10 a.m. Saturday as they face Charlotte at the Memorial Courts.
