Men's Tennis Drops To Yale 4-3

The Eagles Will Be Back In Action On March 23 Against USC Upstate

CHARLESTON, SC — The Winthrop men's tennis team lost to Yale 4-3 on Sunday in Charleston, SC. The Eagles are 3-8 in the season and 1-0 in conference play.

 

Winthrop started ahead in the scoreboard as it won all two of the three doubles matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, Daniel Daudt and Sergey Belov beat Joel Samaha and Erik Blumenkranz 8-4, while Guy Kubi and Nadav Ruppin defeated Marc Powers and Calvin Bennet 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles match.

 

In singles play, the Eagles won two of the six matches. In the No. 3 singles match, Diego Toledo defeated Bennet 6-3, 6-1, while Kubi beat Samaha 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. In the No. 4 singles match, Dejon Bivens lost in the third set to Daniel Hoffman 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, while Liran Levy also lost in the third set to Connor Dawson 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles match.

 

"Our doubles was outstanding today. I am proud of how far we have come in that area," assistant coach Andrew Stubbs said. "Beyond that, it is tough to lose another close match. However, I think our guys learned a lot from this match, and it will make us better in the long run."

 

The Eagles will be back in action at 2 p.m. on March 23 as they face travel to Spartanburg, SC, to face USC Upstate.
