WILMINGTON, NC — The Winthrop men's tennis team lost to the No. 52 ranked UNC Wilmington 6-1 on Sunday in Wilmington, NC. The Eagles are 0-4 in the season.
Winthrop lost the doubles point by dropping the three doubles matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, Sergey Belov and Guy Kubi lost to Michael Pereira and Ryan Ybarra 8-5, while Dejon Bivens and Diego Toledo dropped to Kinshuk Sharma and Max Ando Hirsh 8-3 in the No. 2 doubles match. In the No. 3 doubles match, nadav Ruppin and Liran Levy lost to Losta Blank and Illia Ziamtsou 8-2.
In singles play, the only victory for the Eagles came in the No.3 singles match as Ruppin defeated Ziamtsou 6-2, 6-1.
“We played well, but we just couldn't put the opponents away in some games,” head coach Cid Carvalho said. “I think that's just lack of playing right now. I hope we can work on that as the season goes on. Nadav had a very good match today, winning at No. 2 singles in straight sets.”
The Eagles will be back in action at 1 p.m. Frinday as they travel to Troy, AL, to play Troy.
