Men's Tennis Team Loses To North Florida 5-2

The Eagles Will Be Back In Action At 11 A.M. Sunday

ROCK HILL, SC — The Winthrop men's tennis team lost to the University of North Florida Ospreys 5-2 on Sunday at the Winthrop Memorial Courts. The Eagles are 0-3 in the season.

Winthrop lost the doubles point by dropping two of the three doubles matches. The only victory came with the No. 3 doubles as Daniel Daudt and Liran Levy beat Leonardo Nahar and Hleb Maslau 9-7.

In singles play, the Eagles won two out of the six matches. In the No. 1 singles match, Sergey Belov beat Moritz Buerchner in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, while Diego Toledo came back from one set down to defeat Graham Edgar 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 2 singles match.

“I am disappointed that we lost this match,” head coach Cid Carvalho said. “We made too many unforced errors, but we still put ourselves in a position that we could have pulled out the win. I was proud of Sergey winning at No. 1 and Diego winning at No. 2. I felt the other guys fought hard but came out short in the end.”

The Eagles will be back in action at 11 a.m. Sunday as they travel to Wilmington, NC, to play UNC Wilmington.
