ROCK HILL, SC--Junior Ashley Howard once again showed why she is the top thrower in the Big South Conference and senior distance runner Matt Elliott continued to turn in strong performances during last weekend's Niswonger Invitational at East Tennessee.
Howard won the weight throw and set a new school record while capturing the event title. Elliott led the Eagle runners as he fought a tough battle in the invitational 800 meters, before finishing second in an impressive time of 1:54.01.

Howard again led a strong performance by the Winthrop throws crew as she won the weight in a new school record of 16.73 meters (54 feet 11.5 inches), tops in the Big South. Howard also finished 12th in the shot put.
Sophomore Felicia Boulware (Lewisville HS, SC) had a solid meet, finishing seventh in the shot put in a personal best 41 feet 11 inches and sophomore Travis Coleman (Robert C. Byrd High School, Clarksburg, WV) was 11th in the weight throw with a toss of 49 feet nine inches.
The Eagle track and field team returns to action February 2 as it travels to the University of Akron.
