CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Winthrop University's Rod Lorick was named Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Year by the Big South Conference today.
Lorick was an indoor track All-Conference performer in the 200 meters, the 400 meters and the triple jump. The Irmo, SC native placed first in the 200 and 400 and second in the triple jump, as well as anchoring the 4 x 400 relay team in a second place finish to earn Most Outstanding Track Performer honors at the indoor championship. He finished second in the 400 meters, high jump and triple jump at the outdoor championships to earn All-Conference honors in each event. A senior last season, Lorick also anchored the 4 x 100 (which finished third) and 4 x 400 (which finished second) relay teams in the outdoor championship.
The men's and women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year is voted on by the Big South head men's and women's track and field coaches following the outdoor season.
Liberty University's Heather Sagan was name the women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
The Big South is a NCAA Division I Athletic Conference with nine member institutions across the Southeast. Birmingham-Southern College, Charleston Southern University, Coastal Carolina University, Elon University, High Point University, Liberty University, UNC Asheville, Radford University and Winthrop University comprise the 19-year-old league, which is based in Charlotte, N.C.
