Athletics Coming Off Record-Breaking Fundraising Year, Look To Build On Momentum In '26-27

WINTHROP ATHLETICS ANNOUNCES RECORD-BREAKING FUNDRAISING YEAR, LOOKS TO BUILD ON MOMENTUM IN 2026-27

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop University Athletics announced a record-breaking year of philanthropic support, raising more than $1.9 million in charitable gifts and commitments during the 2025-26 fiscal year, marking the most successful fundraising year in the history of Winthrop Athletics.

The milestone reflects the tremendous generosity of Winthrop alumni, Eagle Club members, fans, parents and supporters whose investment continues to play a vital role in providing an exceptional experience for Winthrop student-athletes and positioning Winthrop Athletics for continued success.

"This record-breaking year is a direct reflection of what happens when the Winthrop community rallies behind our student-athletes," said Athletic Director Chuck Rey. "Every Eagle Club member and every supporter helped create opportunities that impact our student-athletes in competition and the classroom. Our student-athletes achieved the second-highest cumulative GPA in Winthrop Athletics history with a 3.54 GPA—proof that our supporters are not only investing in great athletes, but in outstanding students and future leaders. The enhancements we're making to the Eagle Club and the continued growth of the Winthrop Impact Network are designed to better engage our supporters while providing the resources necessary for our programs to compete for championships and continue excelling academically. We are incredibly grateful for everyone who believes in our vision and invite even more Eagles to join us as we build the future of Winthrop Athletics together."

The record-setting year included philanthropic support for student-athlete scholarships, sport-specific excellence funds, facility improvements and other priorities across Winthrop Athletics. Donor investments helped advance projects and initiatives designed to strengthen the student-athlete experience and provide Winthrop's programs with the resources necessary to compete at the highest level.

As Winthrop Athletics enters the 2026-27 fiscal year, the department is focused on several key priorities that will help shape the future of the Eagles.  This includes student-athlete scholarships, revenue sharing initiatives, facility improvements and continuing to build a broader culture of philanthropy across the Winthrop Eagles community.

To help support these priorities, Winthrop Athletics will continue to grow the Winthrop Impact Network (WIN), an elite giving community designed for supporters interested in making significant, multi-year investments in the future of Eagle Athletics. The Winthrop Impact Network provides an opportunity for donors to make a meaningful impact on the areas of greatest need while helping create sustainable philanthropic support for Winthrop student-athletes and programs.

The department will also continue to strengthen the overall Eagle Club experience in 2026-27. Updates to the Eagle Club benefits structure and basketball gameday hospitality offerings will provide supporters with new and enhanced opportunities to connect with Winthrop Athletics and experience the impact of their support.  To view the updated benefits chart, along with the full 2026-27 Eagle Club membership guide, click HERE.  Additionally, season tickets for fall and winter sports are on sale now.  Eagle Club members starting at the Coaches level can take advantage of reserved seating options along with other benefits.
