ROCK HILL, SC – In its inaugural year, Winthrop Men's and Women's Basketball combined with businesses and individuals in the York County community to raise more than $4,700 for Winthrop student-athlete scholarships.
As part of the 3's For Degrees campaign, community partners (including S&ME, Sharonview Federal Credit Union, Palmetto Investment Consultants- John Black, Hayes & Hayes LLC, Domtar and The Pointon Family) agreed to donate $3 for every three-point basket made by the Eagles Men's and Women's teams during the 2020-2021 season. Winthrop made 292 three pointers this season, resulting in a total contribution of $4,780 to the student-athlete scholarship fund. This will go towards tuition, books, academic support and more for Winthrop student-athletes.
Winthrop Basketball fans were updated on the number of threes made, and dollars raised, throughout the season through various marketing elements such as graphics and signage inside the Winthrop Coliseum, radio broadcasts, social media and winthropeagles.com. All three-pointers made, at both home and away games, counted towards the total number of $3 donations.
Winthrop Athletics is grateful for the support from these community organizations and individuals that pledged their support and look forward to expanding the program next season!
