ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Winthrop University baseball freshman pitcher
Garrett Byrd was tabbed with Big South Conference Freshman of the Week honors, for the Week of March 9th, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Byrd dominated opposing lineups from the mound in a standout week for the Eagles, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing just two hits and four total baserunners against a pair of Power Four opponents. The right-hander opened the week with four hitless, scoreless innings against Michigan State, retiring 11 of 14 batters faced while punching out three. He followed that performance with 2.0 scoreless innings against No. 7 Auburn. Byrd finished the week with a 0.67 WHIP and held opposing hitters to a .105 batting average.
