Lacrosse Closes Homestand Against Davidson on Thursday

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Winthrop University lacrosse team gears up for its final of four straight home games, taking on Davidson to continue its battle with the Charlotte area schools.

DRAW CONTROL 
  • This will be the eleventh meeting between Winthrop and Davidson all time, with the Wildcats holding the lion's share of victories, 8-2. 
  • The first time they faced off was in 2013 in Rock Hill, with Davidson coming away with the win, 11-5.  
  • Winthrop has not beaten Davidson since 2017. 
  • The Eagles currently rank first in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game, at 18.00. 
  • They also rank third in ground balls per game, at 20.67. 
  • Tori Iannotti captured Big South Player of the Week honors, after going on an offensive tear over the past week, the senior netted ten goals on thirteen shots on goal for an efficiency of .867 percent, Iannotti opened the week with four goals against Campbell in a back-and-forth thriller that slipped away in the final few possessions. She followed that up with a six goal performance on just six shots, sitting one goal shy of tying her career-high. Iannotti was the driving force to help the Eagles get their first win over Queens in program history, in a dramatic double overtime contest. 
  • Gabby Pierpont was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week, as her presence was felt on the field all week. The senior midfielder kicked off the week with two goals against Campbell with one draw control and one caused turnover. She then shifted to more defensive statistics, putting up a career-high four caused turnovers and tying her career-high with four ground balls in the double overtime win against Queens. All told, Pierpont had four ground balls, five caused turnovers and three draw controls on the week. 
  • The Eagles and Royals had a double overtime thriller on Saturday at Eagle Field, taking down the Royals for the first time in program history, and the first double-overtime win since Butler in 2023 (Triple OT). 
  • Iris Leavitt and Christina Warren also netted hattricks, as Warren pushed her season total to seven goals. 
  • Winthrop and Campbell battled to the wire, with the Fightin' Camels coming out on top 16-15.  
  • Tori Iannotti, Iris Leavitt, and Christina Warren all notched a hattrick or more in the contest against Campbell.  
  • Lily Davis earned Big South Defender of the Week, the first time that a Winthrop athlete earned defensive player of the week since Kelsey Johnson in 2022.    
  • Davis scooped up a career-high eight ground balls, tied for the second-most in a single game in Winthrop history, also causing three turnovers and scoring her first career goal off a caused turnover.   
  • The Eagles opened their season with a dramatic overtime win against Kennesaw State, coming back tie the game with less 30 seconds left, to eventually win it in overtime.   
  • Emily Hollinger scored a hattrick against the Owls, and the emphatic overtime winner.  
  • The Winthrop University women's lacrosse team was slated to finish fifth in the 2026 Big South Preseason Poll, announced by the conference office this afternoon.     
  • This marks the Eagles highest preseason ranking since 2023, when the Eagles were also placed fifth.    
  • Winthrop made their first trip back to the Big South Tournament since 2022 last season, after a 4-4 conference campaign, earning the fifth seed, and falling to three-seeded Wofford in a one-score thriller.    
  • Four of the top five point getters for the Eagles return for 2026.    
  • Mikaylah Lindsay returns to the crease, after playing in 16 games and starting 12.    
  • Lily Davis ranked eleventh in the conference in caused turnovers per game at 1.29.    
  • Christina Warren was also eleventh in the Big South in goals per game at 2.46.    
  • Lindsay ranked 82nd in the nation in saves and 80th in saves per game in 2025.    
  • Winthrop returns 21 from last season's roster and adds massive depth with 14 newcomers
