Thatcher and Torain Earn Big South Weekly Awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Winthrop Volleyball athletes Lexi Thatcher and Addison Torain were tabbed with Big South Conference Weekly Awards, with Thatcher earning Setter of the Week and Torain being tabbed as Libero of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.

For Thatcher, this marks her third Setter of the Week after winning back-to-back awards earlier in the season.

For Torain, this is her second-time winning the award this season, winning in back-to-back weeks. This also marks the first time a Winthrop Libero has won in two consecutive weeks since 2020-21 when the Libero of the Week award was introduced.

Thatcher once again quarterbacked the Eagles to a 2-0 week, totaling 100 assists in the two matches for an average of 11.11 assists per set, along with 22 digs and four blocks. She opened the week with 50 assists and 11 digs in a five-set win over Charleston Southern, her seventh double-double of the season, as Winthrop hit .278. Thatcher then matched that total with 50 assists in a four-set win over Presbyterian on Saturday, adding five kills and three blocks as the Eagles hit .237. Her 100 assists and 11.11 per set were both the most in the Big South on the week, and she recorded more assists than five Big South teams did in total. Both of her 50-assist matches tied for the most in the conference. Winthrop's .257 hitting percentage for the week was the second highest in the Big South.

Torain was all over the court in the Eagles' 2-0 week, totaling 44 digs for an average of 4.89 per set while committing no errors in 22 serve receive attempts. She opened the week with 16 digs and five assists in a five-set win over Charleston Southern. Torain then set a new career high Saturday against Presbyterian, recording 28 digs in a four-set win. Her 4.89 digs per set ranked second in the Big South on the week, and her 28-dig performance was the second highest in the conference.
