Goode Selected For Induction Into Big South Hall Of Fame

Rock Hill, S.C. – Former Winthrop standout Track & Field sprinter Octavia Goode has been selected to be inducted into the Big South Conference Hall of Fame, which will be held Thursday, May 29 at the Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms, S.C.

Goode was inducted into the Winthrop Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004 after a decorated career on the track.

In her career at Winthrop, Goode was a 16-time Big South Champion as she claimed seven indoor titles and nine in outdoor. She was a 23-time All-Conference performer, earning 10 at Indoor and 13 in Outdoor Track & Field. Goode was named the Big South Most Outstanding Indoor Track Performer in 2002 and 2003. She was also named the Big South Most Outstanding Outdoor Track Performer in 2003 and 2004. Goode was voted to the Big South Conference All-Decade Team (2000-09) for both Indoor Track & Field and Outdoor Track & Field.

Over the course of her indoor career she captured the 60m four times, 200m twice and was a key piece of the championship Distance Medley Relay in 2003.

Goode's outdoor championship resume includes titles in the 100m four times, 200m three times and twice was a member of the 4x100 championship team. When she finished her career she was the Big South record holder in the 100m and 200m as well as being a member of the record-holding 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams.  As of May 3, 2025 Goode is still the record holder for Winthrop in the 60m with a time of 7.43 and held the league record for 11 years before it was broken in 2013.  

Goode qualified for the 2003 and 2004 NCAA East Regional in the 100m, 200m and as a member of the 4x100m team. She qualified for the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 100m and finished 17th overall.

The others selected for enshrinement into the Big South Hall of Fame are Chris Archer (High Point/Men's Tennis & Soccer), Gary Gilmore (Coastal Carolina/Head Baseball Coach), Phil Leftwich (Radford/Baseball), Natalie Pearson (UNC Asheville/Track & Field) and Mario Williams (Gardner-Webb/Football).

The Big South Hall of Fame, created in 2003 as part of the League's 20th Anniversary celebration, now totals 87 former Big South Conference student-athletes, coaches, administrators and contributors with the addition of the new honorees.
