Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop's
Lindsay Sheets has been tabbed the Big South Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
Sheets started both matches last week, playing a key role in the team earning back-to-back conference wins that included a 3-2 victory over league-leading Radford. Against the Highlanders, Sheets set up the first two goals as the Eagles led 2-0 in just under nine minutes into the match.
In the fourth minute, she split the Radford defense with a pass to
Cordelia McIntosh all alone in the box for a 1v1 as she scored for the early lead. In the 9
th minute, Sheets again had a hand in the goal as she received a pass from
Lauren Kelly and then found Avila-Gutierrez in front of goal as she scored for a 2-0 lead. Following the second goal, Sheets took a shot off a bouncing ball toward the top right corner but couldn't get enough steam to beat Lexi Radvanyi.
This is Sheets second time earning the conference weekly honor for freshmen. She's the first Eagle since Keeley Leising to earn the honor multiple times.
