Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off losing all three games over the weekend to Big South foe USC Upstate, Winthrop will return to the field with mid-week contests on consecutive nights. The Eagles will first travel 45 minutes up the road to Davidson, N.C. for a matchup with the Wildcats on Tue., Apr. 9 at 6 p.m. on ESPN+ and will return to Rock Hill the next day for a re-match with The Citadel at 5 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS DAVIDSON
This will be the 51
st meeting between the Eagles and the Wildcats, with Winthrop leading the series 33-16-1 but the series is tied 9-9-1 in Davidson, N.C. The first meeting was on Apr. 25, 1980 with Winthrop winning 13-9 in Rock Hill on the way to winning 8 of the first 10 contests from 1980 to 1989. Davidson won four of the next five meetings from 1989 to 1991, but Winthrop then went on another big run, going on a 20-5 spurt from 1991 to 2015. Since 2016, the two teams have split the last 10 meetings. The two teams last met in 2022, with Davidson winning both games by scores of 15-5 in Rock Hill on Apr. 19 and 12-2 in Davidson on May 4.
SERIES HISTORY VS. THE CITADEL
The two schools will meet for the 61
st time with Winthrop leading the series, 32-28 and 15-14 in Rock Hill. Winthrop has won the last four meetings. This will be the second of two meetings between the two teams this season, with Winthrop winning the most recent matchup, 4-3 in Charleston on Apr. 2. The Eagles and the Bulldogs met for the first time on Mar. 31, 1988 in Rock Hill, with Winthrop winning 14-2 on the way to winning 17 of the first 29 contests from 1988-2006. From 2007-2015, The Citadel won 14 of the next 18 meetings. But since then, Winthrop has struck back by winning 11 of the next 13.

BIG SOUTH WEEKLY HONORS
Riley Huge-Big South Starting Pitcher of The Week-Feb. 27
- Played 7.0 innings, giving up just one hit, no runs and no walks and striking out a career-high 13 batters in getting his first win on the season.
- This came in his lone start of the week in the first game of the four-game home series with Toledo on Friday (a 3-0 Eagles victory).
- This was Huge's first weekly award of the season and his career and the first time Winthrop was honored in 2024.

- In his lone start of the week in the first game of the three-game home series with Maine last Saturday (an 8-0 Eagles victory in the first game of a doubleheader), Huge pitched 7.2 innings allowing only one hit and two walks while recording 20 of his 23 outs via strikeout to lead Winthrop to an 8-0 victory over Maine.
- His 20 strikeouts are believed to be the all-time single-game Big South record and are the most by any NCAA pitcher since 2017.
- He struck out the first six hitters he faced before permitting a baserunner, and of his 23 outs, he factored into 22 of the 23 comprised of 20 strikeouts and two groundouts back to the mound.
- With this performance, Huge broke the Winthrop single-game strikeout record previously held by Kevin Slowey (19 vs. NYIT on Apr. 12, 2003).
- This is Huge's second weekly award of the season and his career and the second straight week Winthrop has been honored in 2024.
HUGE WINS THREE NATIONAL HONORS
- The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week awards presented by The Game Headwear for the period ending March 3.
- Huge was named National Pitcher of the Week.
- The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.
- This is the first time that an Eagle has won a national player of the week honors by the NCBWA since Jacob Dempsey on May 11, 2006.
- Huge also was named the National Pitcher of the Week by both Perfect Game and the NCAA.
