Two Eagles Garner All-Conference Honors

Charlotte, N.C. - Winthrop women's basketball had two players named to the 2024 Big South All-Conference teams, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. Junior forward Marissa Gasaway and junior guard Jada Ryce, were honored after the Eagles concluded the regular-season 14-15 overall, 8-8 conference record and a sixth place league finish.
 
Gasaway garnered honorable mention after a season in which she finished 1st in the Big South and the team in rebounds per game with 10.3. She had a conference leading individual game-high 18 rebounds vs. High Point on Feb. 28. Gasaway played in all 29 regular-season games, leading Winthrop in free throws made with 78 and most notably nine double doubles. Gasaway also had 16 games in double figures in rebounds and 13 games in double figures in points. She was named the Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 27-Dec. 3.
 
Ryce was also named honorable mention and was named to the all-academic team. Ryce concluded the regular-season finishing 4th in the Big South in free throw percentage with .786 and in steals per game with 1.7. She also finished 8th in the conference in minutes per game with 31.7 and 9th in the conference in assists per game with 2.4. Ryce's best game was against Carolina University at home on Dec. 10, 2023. Ryce had a conference leading individual game-high 10 steals in that contest. This came within one steal of tying the school record for steals in a single game. Ryce played in all 29 regular-season games, leading the team in blocks with 50 and had 17 games in double figures in points. Ryce surpassed 500 career points vs. Charleston Southern on Jan. 24. The business major currently has a GPA of 3.792.
