HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles started the day with Alan Benhardt at third base with two outs but Jaylen Hernandez flew out to left field to end the threat.
- Ricky Teel's groundout and an RBI single by Chazz Grossington put Winthrop ahead 2-0.
- Gardner-Webb had a runner at third with two outs following a sac fly but a ground out to end the second inning.
- The Eagles exploded for six runs in the third to take an 8-0 lead.
- The highlight of the inning was a two-run home run to left field by Hernandez, his third homer of the series.
- Gardner-Webb cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame, both on two-run RBI singles.
- The Eagles had a chance to extend their lead in the fifth, loading the bases with one out after Anthony Ruocco was hit by a pitch but two consecutive outs ended the inning.
