SERIES HISTORY VERSUS CLEMSON
The two schools will meet for the 33^rd time with Clemson leading the series, 26-7 and 23-6 in Clemson. This will be the only meeting between the two teams this season. The Eagles and the Tigers met for the first time on Mar. 14, 1981 in Rock Hill, with Clemson winning 9-5 on the way to winning 16 of the first 18 contests from 1981-2004. Winthrop's only wins during this stretch were a 7-6 count in Rock Hill on Mar. 28, 1982 and an 8-4 win at Clemson on Apr. 5, 2001. From 2005-2019, the two team were almost even, with Clemson winning six games to Winthrop's five. The Tigers have since won the last four meetings since 2020. The two teams met once last season in 2023, with Clemson winning 8-5 on Mar. 21 in Clemson.

• Winthrop is 3rd in the Big South in overall pitching with an ERA of 5.61.
• Owen Sarna, Reese Lumpkin and Riley Huge are 5^th, 4^th and 3^rd in the Big South in earned runs allowed, respectively.
• Huge also leads the Big South in batters struck out with 62, 22 more than Gus Hughes of High Point (41).
• Huge is the first Winthrop pitcher to record 10 or more strikeouts in four of the first five starts to a season since Heath Rollins had four in his first five starts in 2006.
• Huge leads the nation in strikeouts with 62, six ahead of Chase Burns of Wake Forest (56).
• Jaylen Hernandez leads the Big South in doubles with 10.
• Charlie Evans is 3rd in the Big South in overall hitting with a batting average of .440.
• Will Dorrell is 10th in the Big South in overall fielding (catches) with 30.

BIG SOUTH WEEKLY HONORS
Riley Huge-Big South Starting Pitcher of The Week-Feb. 27

• Played 7.0 innings, giving up just one hit, no runs and no walks and striking out a career-high 13 batters in getting his first win on the season.
• This came in his lone start of the week in the first game of the four-game home series with Toledo on Friday (a 3-0 Eagles victory).
• This was Huge's first weekly award of the season and his career and the first time Winthrop was honored in 2024.

Riley Huge-Big South Starting Pitcher of The Week-Mar. 4

• In his lone start of the week in the first game of the three-game home series with Maine last Saturday (an 8-0 Eagles victory in the first game of a doubleheader), Huge pitched 7.2 innings allowing only one hit and two walks while recording 20 of his 23 outs via strikeout to lead Winthrop to an 8-0 victory over Maine.
• His 20 strikeouts are believed to be the all-time single-game Big South record and are the most by any NCAA pitcher since 2017.
• He struck out the first six hitters he faced before permitting a baserunner, and of his 23 outs, he factored into 22 of the 23 comprised of 20 strikeouts and two groundouts back to the mound.
• With this performance, Huge broke the Winthrop single-game strikeout record previously held by Kevin Slowey (19 vs. NYIT on Apr. 12, 2003).
• This is Huge's second weekly award of the season and his career and the second straight week Winthrop has been honored in 2024.

HUGE WINS THREE NATIONAL HONORS

• The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week awards presented by The Game Headwear for the period ending March 3.
• Huge was named National Pitcher of the Week.
• The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.
• This is the first time that an Eagle has won a national player of the week honors by the NCBWA since Jacob Dempsey on May 11, 2006.
• Huge also was named the National Pitcher of the Week by both Perfect Game and the NCAA.
