SERIES HISTORY VERSUS GARDNER-WEBB
This is the 39th meeting between the Eagles and the Runnin' Bulldogs, with Gardner-Webb leading the series, 27-11. The first meeting between the two teams was on Jan. 24, 1980, with Winthrop winning 82-60 at home on the way to winning the first three meetings. Gardner-Webb won the next eight meetings only to see Winthrop counter with four straight wins. Gardner-Webb has totally dominated the series since 2014, winning 19 of the last 23 encounters. In the most recent meeting on Jan. 20, Winthrop beat Gardner-Webb for the first time in four years by a final score of 61-50 at the Winthrop Coliseum. It was Winthrop's first victory in the series in nine tries since a 64-62 result on Jan. 19, 2019 on the road.
