Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop Athletics held its Hall of Fame ceremony Friday evening as John Godbold, Cari Wooldridge Moore and the 1998-99 Men's Basketball team were inducted.

Godbold was inducted as an outstanding contributor for his support of Winthrop Athletics and its student-athletes both financially and as one of their biggest supporters. John and Linda Godbold have generously given to Winthrop with improvements to the Winthrop Athletic Training Room as well as the men's basketball locker room. The Athletic Training Room's at the Winthrop Coliseum and the Winthrop Ballpark were redesigned along with equipment upgrades and improved spaces. Both of which are named after John and Linda. The former member of the Board of Directors and Eagle Club was born in Rock Hill, S.C. and has been around Winthrop his entire life. Prior to college he attended the Winthrop Training School and his father John J. Godbold Sr. was a professor in the college of education for 11 years at Winthrop.

Moore was a four-year standout for the softball team (2007-11) and was part of back-to-back Big South Conference Championships and NCAA Regional appearances. Moore earned the Big South Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player honors her freshman and sophomore seasons. She a three-time All-Big South selection and in 2008 earned NFCA All-Region 2^nd Team honors. Cari was voted to the Big South Conference All-Decade Team (2000-09). Moore still ranks among the all-time leaders in a number of categories including saves (2^nd), shutouts (3^rd), fewest runs allowed (3^rd), wins (4^th), strikeouts (5^th), and complete games (5^th). After her playing career, Moore spent a couple of seasons as an assistant coach at Winthrop. Cari and her husband Heath are the founders of Get MOORE Training in Rock Hill, S.C. which specializes in dog training.

The 1998-99 Men's Basketball team became the 16^th Team of Distinction to be inducted into the Winthrop Athletics Hall of Fame. This team made the first ever appearance in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. That season the team posted a 21-9 record overall, 9-1 in the Big South Conference. That after being voted to finish last in the Big South Conference. Led by first-year head coach Gregg Marshall the Eagles captured the program's first Big South regular season title and the second Big South Tournament title. This year marks the 25^th anniversary of this team's accomplishments. This team ignited an impressive championship run by the Eagles, who captured eight Big South Conference Championships over a 10-year span. Since that year the Eagles have totaled 12 conference titles and played in the conference title game 16 times.

The team was led by Marshall and he was assisted by Jeff Meyer, Shaun Golden, Damon Stephenson and John D. Jones. The players included Pierre Wooten, Roger Toxey, Robbie Waldrop, Adrian Stockman, Rob Wallace, Dan Tollens, Eric Fisher, Heson Groves, Jacques Vandescure, Tyson Waterman, Juontonio Pinckney, Eyo Effiong and Owen Barnes.
