Boone, N.C. – The Winthrop cross country teams continued their 2023 season by competing at the Appalachian State Covered Bridge Open Friday morning.

Winthrop Highlights
- On the women's side (5K), the Eagles finished sixth (out of 14 teams)
- Olivia Kemp finished 49th with a time of 19:12.33
- Morgan Ruff finished 62nd with a time of 19:46.86, setting a new PR by 21 seconds
- Her previous best in the 5K was a mark of 20:07.0 at the Royals Challenge last season
- Freshman Alexis Taylor, Erin Melitski and Caroline Bend competed in the 5K for the first time in their careers
- On the men's side (8K), Winthrop finished eighth (out of 13 teams)
- Daren Hinds finished 28th with a time of 25:24.39.
- Freshman Chadwick Sisson and Ivan Diaz competed in the 8K for the first time in their careers.
Up Next
Both the men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 30 when the Eagles return home to host the 39th annual Winthrop/Adidas Invitational. This is Winthrop's only home meet this year.
