ROCK HILL, S.C. – Coming off dropping two of three games to High Point in the final Big South home series of the year this past weekend and having Tuesday's home finale with Davidson canceled due to the threat of inclement weather, Winthrop travels to Longwood in the regular-season finale. First pitch will be on Thursday at 6 p.m.
 
Following the High Point series, the Eagles are currently 25-25 and 13-11 in the Big South Conference and have won 10 of their last 15 games with three regular-season games remaining. The Eagles have six series wins overall at this point in the season, including wins over Presbyterian and Maine and sweeps of LIU, The Citadel, UNC Asheville and Radford.
 
The two schools will meet for the 28^th time with Winthrop leading the series, 20-7, including 10-2 in Farmville. The two schools met for the first time on May 17, 2005 in Rock Hill with Winthrop taking a 6-5 victory on the way to winning the first two and six of the first seven meetings. The Eagles have won 15 of the last 17 meetings, including the last two. The teams did not meet last year but played six times in 2021, with Winthrop winning four of them. That was the last time Winthrop won a series from Longwood overall. The Eagles have never lost a series in Farmville. The most recent meeting was on Apr 15, 2021, a doubleheader at home that Winthrop won by scores of 3-2 and 7-4.
 
The Lancers enter tomorrow's game having taken two of three from Presbyterian on the road this past weekend and have seven series wins on the year so far. Longwood is currently 22-29 overall and 10-14 in the Big South.
 
Longwood was picked to finish sixth in the Big South's preseason poll with 46 votes. The Lancers went 20-33 overall and 10-14 run in league competition in 2022.
 
Winthrop enters 2023 predicted to finish ninth in the Big South Conference. The Eagles finished the 2022 season with an 18-34 (11-13 Big South) record. The Eagles also welcome back 18 players, nine of them starters and 16 newcomers, all either freshman or transfers.
