ROCK HILL, S.C. - Coming off an 8-7 extra inning loss to Queens at home, resulting in the Royals splitting the home-and-home season series with the Eagles and dropping Winthrop's record to 24-23 with seven regular-season games remaining, Winthrop continues conference play in a three-game series with High Point in the Big South home series finale for the Eagles. First pitch will be on Friday at 6 p.m.
 
The two schools will meet for the 71st time with Winthrop leading the series by a 44-26 count, including 17-14 in Rock Hill. The Eagles and Panthers met for the first time in a doubleheader on May 8, 1999 in Rock Hill with each team winning a game. The two teams have split the last 10 meetings but Winthrop won the last meeting between the two teams, a 10-9 victory in High Point on Mar. 27, 2022. Last season saw High Point take the season series from the Eagles in High Point in two out of three games played. Winthrop is seeking their first series win since 2019, when the Eagles took three of five games.
 
Following the second Queens game, the Eagles have won nine of their last 13 games. Winthrop currently has six series wins overall at this point in the season, including wins over Presbyterian and Maine and sweeps of LIU, The Citadel, UNC Asheville and Radford.
 
High Point's most recent outing was on Tuesday night, a 13-7 win at Elon. The Panthers have four series wins so far. The Panthers are currently 17-31 overall, 9-11 in Big South play on the year. Last season, High Point finished with an overall record of 23-33 and 14-10 in the Big South. The Panthers were voted to finish third with 68 points in the Big South in the 2023 preseason coaches poll.
 
Winthrop enters 2023 predicted to finish ninth in the Big South Conference. The Eagles finished the 2022 season with an 18-34 (11-13 Big South) record. The Eagles also welcome back 18 players, nine of them starters and 16 newcomers, all either freshman or transfers.
