ROCK HILL, S.C. - Coming off an 8-4 win at The Citadel last night to take the home-and-home series from the Bulldogs and moving to move to 14-16 overall, Winthrop continues conference play at Charleston Southern in a three-game series tomorrow at 4 p.m.
 
The two schools will meet for the 104th time with Winthrop leading the series by a 69-34 count, including 23-21 on the road. The two schools met for the first time on May 12, 1990, with the Eagles winning 3-1 in the conference tournament in route to winning the first six and 11 of the first 12 meetings. Last season saw the Eagles take two of three at home but the final game in that series on Apr. 10 saw Winthrop's 10-game win streak in the series come to an end with a 14-11 loss in 10 innings. It was the Eagles first loss to the Bucs since 2018. The year before resulted in a rare four-game sweep for the Eagles in Charleston as part of the streak.
 
CSU's most recent outing was a three-game sweep by Campbell this past weekend. The Bucs have four series wins so far, including sweeps of Kansas and UNC Asheville. The Bucs are currently 12-16 overall and 4-5 in Big South play on the year. Last season, CSU finished with an overall record of 24-30 and 13-11 in the Big South, reaching the conference title game for the first time since 2000, where they lost 3-2 to Campbell. CSU was voted to finish seventh with one first-place vote and with 44 points in the Big South in the 2023 preseason coaches poll.
 
Winthrop enters 2023 predicted to finish ninth in the Big South Conference. The Eagles finished the 2022 season with an 18-34 (11-13 Big South) record. The Eagles also welcome back 18 players, nine of them starters and 16 newcomers, all either freshman or transfers.
