ROCK HILL, S.C. - Coming off a 4-3 loss at Charlotte in the first game of a home-and-home series with the 49ers to drop to 15-19 overall, Winthrop continues conference play by hosting Presbyterian in a three-game series tomorrow at 6 p.m.
 
The two schools will meet for the 40th time with PC leading the series by a 20-19 count and has won the last four and seven of the last 10 meetings. The series is tied in Rock Hill at nine. The two schools met for the first time on Apr. 10, 2009 with the Eagles winning 13-4 at home on the way to a sweep that weekend, as well as winning the first five and seven of the first eight meetings. Last season saw the Eagles being swept in three games on the road, including the most recent meeting on Apr. 24 by a count of 6-4. Winthrop's last series win was in 2019, taking three of four from the Blue Hose (two of three in Clinton and one win in the Big South Tournament). Winthrop's last series win vs. PC in Rock Hill was a three-game sweep in 2018.
 
PC's most recent outing was an 18-1 loss to Wofford on Tuesday night and have seven series wins so far. The Blue Hose are currently 13-21 overall and 6-6 in Big South play on the year. Last season, PC finished with an overall record of 22-32 and 9-15 in the Big South. PC was voted to finish eighth with 42 points in the Big South in the 2023 preseason coaches poll.
 
Winthrop enters 2023 predicted to finish ninth in the Big South Conference. The Eagles finished the 2022 season with an 18-34 (11-13 Big South) record. The Eagles also welcome back 18 players, nine of them starters and 16 newcomers, all either freshman or transfers.
