ROCK HILL, S.C. – Coming off a 3-2 stretch vs. Wofford on the road and a three-game series vs. Maine at home, Winthrop stays put in Rock Hill to take on Wofford for the second time this season.
Winthrop and Wofford will meet for the 37
st time with Winthrop leading the series by a 22-14 count. The teams will meet three times this season, with the return match in Rock Hill on April 18. Winthrop has lost the last three meetings to Wofford, including the most recent matchup on Feb. 28 in Spartanburg, 18-10. Winthrop is 11-5 against the Terriers in Rock Hill. Winthrop's last win in the series was in 2019, a year the Eagles won both meetings from the Terriers.
The Terriers are coming off a 3-0 sweep of Sacred Heart this past weekend and have won their last 10 games after dropping their opening contest to Southern Illinois on Feb. 17.
Wofford was picked first in the Southern Conference for the third straight year in the preseason poll after posting a school-record 42 wins last season with a 16-4-1 SoCon mark.
Winthrop enters 2023 predicted to finish ninth in the Big South Conference. The Eagles finished the 2022 season with an 18-34 (11-13 Big South) record. The Eagles also welcome back 18 players, nine of them starters and 16 newcomers, all either freshman or transfers.
