ROCK HILL, S.C. – Coming off a 1-3 stretch in which the Eagles were shutout 8-0 vs. Wofford at home and dropping two of three to East Tennessee State on the road, Winthrop returns to the friendly confines of The Winthrop Ballpark for a two-game series with the Cincinnati Bearcats.
 
Winthrop and Cincinnati will meet for the fifth time with Winthrop leading the series by a 3-1 count, all in Rock Hill. All four meetings took place in 2003, with Winthrop taking three of those four games.
 
The Bearcats enter Rock Hill having being swept in two games by Wofford this past weekend and have won only one series up to this point, a rare 4-0 sweep of North Alabama at home.
 
The Bearcats were picked seventh in the American Athletic Conference' preseason poll after posting a 24-31 overall record and 12-12 in the AAC.
 
Winthrop enters 2023 predicted to finish ninth in the Big South Conference. The Eagles finished the 2022 season with an 18-34 (11-13 Big South) record. The Eagles also welcome back 18 players, nine of them starters and 16 newcomers, all either freshman or transfers.
