ROCK HILL, S.C. – Coming off a 1-3 stretch vs. South Carolina on the road and a three-game series vs. Liberty at home, Winthrop hits the road for the second time this season for a match-up in Spartanburg with the Wofford Terriers and then returns home to face The Citadel Bulldogs the next day.
 
Winthrop and Wofford will meet for the 36^st time with Winthrop leading the series by a 22-13 count. The teams will meet three times this season, with the return matches in Rock Hill on March 7 and April 18. Winthrop has lost the last two meetings to Wofford, including last year's 4-2 loss on the road and is 9-8 all-time in Spartanburg. Winthrop's last win in the series was in 2019, a year the Eagles won both meetings from the Terriers.
 
The Terriers are coming off a 3-0 sweep of Kent State this past weekend and has won their last six games after dropping their opening contest to Southern Illinois on Feb. 17. Against Kent State, Wofford outscored the Golden Flashes 27-12.
 
Wofford was picked first in the Southern Conference for the third straight year in the preseason poll after posting a school-record 42 wins last season with a 16-4-1 SoCon mark.
 
Winthrop and The Citadel will meet for the 58^th time with Winthrop leading the series 29-28 but is tied 14-14 in Rock Hill. The last meeting was on May 10, 2022 with Winthrop winning 9-6 in 11 innings in Charleston, S.C. The two teams split two contests last season and will meet twice this season. Winthrop's last win over The Citadel at home occurred on March 20, 2019, an 8-1 victory.
 
The Bulldogs came off a weekend in which they lost two of three games to Lehigh and before that a loss to in-city rival Charleston Southern. The Citadel initially started their season with a sweep over Delaware State. Like Winthrop, the Bulldogs are 4-3 coming to Rock Hill and this will be their first road trip this season.
 
The Citadel was picked to finish eighth in the Southern Conference after going 26-31 (5-16 So Con) in 2022.
 
Winthrop enters 2023 predicted to finish ninth in the Big South Conference. The Eagles finished the 2022 season with an 18-34 (11-13 Big South) record. The Eagles also welcome back 18 players, nine of them starters and 16 newcomers, all either freshman or transfers.
