ROCK HILL, S.C. - Coming off a 19-3 loss at South Carolina to give the Eagles their first loss of the season, Winthrop returns home to face the Liberty University Flames for a three-game series.
 
The two schools will meet for the 96th time with the Eagles leading the series by a 49-46 count. Winthrop has lost the last five meetings to Liberty after winning eight in a row and is 31-22 all-time at home vs. the Flames. Winthrop's last win in the series was on May 17, 2018 at home. The most recent meeting was on Feb. 27, 2022, a 13-2 loss in Lynchburg.
 
Liberty's visit to Rock Hill will be part of a seven-game road trip for the Flames. Their most recent game was an 8-6 win at Duke last night. Liberty opened its year with a three-game series at No. 18 Southern Miss last weekend. The Flames dropped all three contests and will enter Friday's contest looking for their second straight win.
 
Last season, the Flames posted a 37-22 overall record and went to down to Gainesville, Fla. For NCAA Regional competition.
 
After finishing 19-11 and tying for first place in the ASUN East Division in 2022, Liberty has been voted to finish on top of the ASUN Conference in its final season in the league in 2023. Liberty will move to Conference USA in July of this year.
 
Winthrop enters 2023 predicted to finish ninth in the Big South Conference. The Eagles finished the 2022 season with an 18-34 (11-13 Big South) record. The Eagles also welcome back 18 players, nine of them starters and 16 newcomers, all either freshman or transfers.
