CHAMPIONSHIP ANNIVERSARIES
2022 marks the 20th Anniversary of the first ever Big South Conference men's soccer championship by the Winthrop program. In 2022 the Eagles hosted the conference tournament and faced 13th-ranked Coastal Carolina. Winthrop was the top seed for the tournament having defeated Coastal Carolina in the regular season, 2-1 in overtime when the Chanticleers were 10th in the country. Winthrop captured the Big South Championship with a 1-0 victory in overtime thanks to a goal by Francis Wakhisi. The Eagles finished the season 17-7-1 after playing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

It is also the 10th Anniversary for the 2012 Winthrop men's soccer team that took a different path than the 2002 team to earn a berth to the NCAA College Cup. The Eagles battled through injuries in 2012 as it entered the Big South Tournament as the 6th seed. Winthrop traveled to 3rd-seeded Liberty in the opening round and pulled off a 2-1 overtime win. In the semifinals the Eagles took on 2nd-seeded Radford and entered overtime with only 10 men as Alex Isern saved the day with a goal in the first overtime period to advance to the title game. In the title game, the Eagles scored two goals in the final 3:30 of regulation to advance to the program's 5th NCAA College Cup Appearance. That year the Eagles advanced to the Round of 32 after knocking off SMU on the road in penalties.
LOOKING AHEAD
Eagles remain at home and get back to Big South Conference action when they host USC Upstate on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. The graduating seniors will be recognized in a pregame ceremony.
