Rock Hill, S.C. – The Big South Conference released its annual men's soccer preseason poll Thursday afternoon.
Winthrop was voted to finish 9
th following a spring-shortened season that ended with an 0-8-1 mark (three losses by one goal). High Point received 8-of-9 first-place votes and is the favorite to win the league. The Panthers are followed by Campbell, USC Upstate, Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville, Presbyterian College, Radford, Longwood and Winthrop.
The Eagles featured a significantly young squad in the spring with 16 underclassmen. There are four of the top five scorers from the spring returning to the team this fall and eight field players with six or more starts. Winthrop returns a total of 19 players from the spring roster.
Winthrop opens its exhibition schedule on Saturday, Aug. 14 at home against Georgia Southern. The Eagles regular season opener is Thursday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in DeLand, Fla. as they take on Stetson.
