Winthrop Baseball Hosts Wofford Wednesday Night

 
 
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop baseball will welcome the Wofford Terriers to Winthrop Ballpark on Wednesday, May 5. First pitch of the midweek matchup is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Eagles and Terriers have met 32 times in history with Winthrop currently holding a 21-11 all-time series lead.

The Eagles are coming off a high-scoring affair against the High Point Panthers. The three-game series saw a combined 68 runs, with the Eagles winning Game 1 of Saturday's double header in walk-off fashion, 11-10, dropping the other two, 11-2 and 19-15.

Spencer Yankle delivered the game-winning home run after going yard earlier in the contest, making him the first Eagle to have multiple home runs in the same game since May 23, 2019.

Andrew Jenner hit a solo shot in Game 2 of Saturday's action, the first of his collegiate career.

Winthrop's starter for the midweek match will be Aaron White. The freshman has appeared in nine games, totaling 6.2 innings pitched. He currently has a 6.75 ERA.

Wofford most recently took 2-of-3 meetings against SoCon preseason favorite Samford.

Nolen Hester leads the Terriers with his .365 batting average, while Colin Davis is batting .362 while leading the team in RBI and home runs with 36 and nine respectively.

Wofford's starter, Dom Marcoccio, previously earned wins over Xavier and Toledo and currently has a 4.76 ERA. The freshman has made three starts so far this season, while appearing in 13 games.

Wofford leads the SoCon with 102 stolen bases and a .241 combined opposing batting average.

These teams are scheduled to meet again on May 19 at Russell C. King Field in Spartanburg, S.C.
