Rock Hill, SC – Ty Hooks and
Dalton Mims took home Big South baseball weekly honors announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Ty Hooks was named Big South Freshman of the Week after batting .385 on the weekend, driving in seven runs. Hooks was an essential part of Winthrop's extra-inning win over Charleston Southern Friday night, smashing his first collegiate home run to get the scoring underway and driving in an insurance run in the bottom of the 11
th to give Winthrop the 4-2 win.
Dalton Mims was named Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week after making three appearances in Winthrop's last four contests. The freshman recorded five strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched. He came in in relief of the extra-inning win and pitched four shutout innings on the mound, striking out a pair of batters, earning the win. In his final appearance of the weekend, Mims faced two batters, striking out the final batter he faced to secure the 9-7 win and earning the save.
This is the first Big South honor for both players and Winthrop's first weekly honor since
Andrew Jenner was named Freshman of the Week on March 2, 2020.
The Eagles will travel to Campbell Tuesday, May 11 for their final road trip of the regular season. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
