ROCK HILL, S.C. – Sara McGuire is one of 13 female college graduates receiving the 2021 NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Graduate Scholarship.
The goal of the enhancement programs is to increase the pool of and opportunities for qualified minorities and female candidates in intercollegiate athletics through graduate scholarships.
"I am extremely excited and honored to have received this recognition and scholarship," McGuire said. "It would not have been possible without the amazing Winthrop Athletic Department staff, my coaches, family and teammates. I am looking forward to continuing my own education and starting an incredible career working with student-athletes"
The Denver, C.O. native is a four-year member of the Winthrop Lacrosse team, appearing in goal 24 times for the Eagles with a .418 saves percentage.
Off the field, McGuire currently serves as Winthrop's SAAC President and student member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Working Group.
She has helped to organize mental health and sexual assault awareness events on campus the past three years and was honored as Winthrop's Woman of Excellence in 2020. McGuire most recently earned Winthrop's Mary Mildred Sullivan Award, one of the University's highest honors, which recognizes a graduating female student for "selfless dedication of time, energy, and talent in service to others".
She served as a Big South Administrative Intern this semester and will graduate in May with a B.S. in Sport Management with minors in Coaching and Legal Studies.
