ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop baseball will welcome the UNC Asheville Bulldogs to Rock Hill April 9-10 for a three-game set. The series will now kick off Friday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. followed by the series finale Saturday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. The series was adjusted due to inclement weather in the Rock Hill area this weekend.
WINTHROP (8-11, 5-6 BSC) V. UNC ASHEVILLE (8-15, 7-11 BSC)
Winthrop will look to snap a four-game losing skid after dropping the last few games to the Campbell Camels.
Ty Hooks continues to be reliable at the plate, leading the team and conference with his .400 batting average, going 3-for-4 in Tuesday's game, driving in two runs.
Spencer Yankle leads the Eagles with 10 extra base hits this season, nine doubles and a triple, and 11 RBI.
Winthrop's Game 1 starter,
Tyler Jones, cracks the leads the conference with his .191 opposing batting average and sits within the top 10 with a 2.77 ERA.
The Bulldogs come to Rock Hill winning three of their last five games.
Brandon Lankford leads the Bulldogs with his .353 batting average and 18 RBI. He's also hit six home runs, which is a three-way tie for most in the Big South. Dominic Freeberger (13), Ty Kaufman (15) and Sebastian Dunn (10) are all starters who have driven in double-figure runs so far this season.
Kole Harris, Asheville's Game 3 starter, is fourth in the Big South with his .202 opposing batting average.
Winthrop and Asheville have met 41 times in history with the Eagles holding a 33-8 all-time series lead. In recent history, Winthrop has found success against the Bulldogs, winning seven of the last 10 meetings.
