Prosser Announces Coaching Staff

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop head men's basketball coach Mark Prosser announced his men's basketball coaching staff, Thursday afternoon.

Prosser has hired assistant coach Tony Rack, assistant coach Ben Betts, assistant coach Brett Ferguson and director of operations Mitchell Hill. All four previously served on Prosser's staff at Western Carolina.

"It truly is an honor to have our entire staff together in Rock Hill," said Prosser. "They are all wonderful people that happen to also be really good college basketball coaches. Their knowledge of the game of basketball is vast, but they will, more importantly, be wonderful resources and mentors for our student- athletes. Our goal is to help our young men pursue their dreams, both on and off the court, and these men will take that goal very seriously. There will be some familiar faces back Rocking the Hill, and we're all so happy to be here!"

Rack spent the last three seasons on the Western Carolina staff as an assistant. He has ties to the Winthrop program as he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Eagles in 2012-13. After three seasons with the Eagles, Rack headed to his alma mater North Kentucky to oversee basketball operations. He spent three seasons with the Norse, including 2016-17 when the program earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.

Betts joins the Eagles after one season on the bench with Prosser at Western Carolina. He has a long and decorated coaching career that includes three seasons as a head coach at South Carolina State where his coaching career began as an assistant. Betts has also held assistant coaching jobs at Oklahoma, VCU, Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, Tennessee State, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern.

Ferguson also spent the last three season under Prosser at Western Carolina. After his first two seasons as the director of operations for the Catamounts he was promoted to assistant coach prior to the 2020-21 season. He began his professional career in the video department of the Big Ten Conference before arriving in Rock Hill to become the video coordinator for the 2012-13 season. Ferguson then returned to his alma mater in 2013 to become the video coordinator for Michigan State.

Hill, another former Winthrop coaching staff member, spent the 2020-21 season as the director of operations for Western Carolina. Prior to his arrival on Prosser's staff last season, Hill worked three seasons (2016-19). He spent his first season with the Eagles as the team's video coordinator and then the next two as the director of operations. Hill began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater Tennessee Tech.
