Tedesco, Miller, Angelo Sweep Big South Weekly Awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop Lacrosse sweeps the Big South Conference weekly lacrosse awards announced by the league office Tuesday morning.

Bianca Tedesco was named Player of the Week after a record-setting performance against Longwood. The redshirt senior broke the Winthrop lacrosse single-game assist record with eight against the Lancers. She had already tied the previous record, seven, earlier in the season. In back-to-back double-digit wins, she totaled 13 assists and two goals. She is averaging 2.86 assists per game, a conference best.

Rachel Miller was named Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, after picking up six ground balls and causing five turnovers in big wins over Longwood and Gardner-Webb. Five of those ground balls and four of those caused turnovers came in Winthrop's season finale against the Runnin' Bulldogs.

Alyssa Angelo was named Freshman Player of the Week. Angelo had a career-high five goals in Winthrop's 21-11 win over Gardner-Webb. She also contributed two assists and won five draw controls. In the last two contests, Angelo totaled six goals and nine won draw controls. This was her second time winning Freshman of the Week, previously earning the honor after Winthrop's season-opening win over Presbyterian.

No. 4 Winthrop will take on No. 1 High Point in the Big South Lacrosse Championship Semifinals on Friday, April 30. Opening draw is set for 5 p.m. at Vert Stadium in High Point. N.C.
