Eagles Take On Gardner-Webb Friday-Sunday, Tuesday

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop's upcoming four-game set with the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs has been adjusted due to inclement weather. The Eagles will head to Boiling Springs for three games –  a double header beginning on Friday, April 23 at 2 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, April 25 with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Eagles will now host the Runnin' Bulldogs at the Winthrop Ballpark on Tuesday, April 27 with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Eagles are coming off a dominating 13-5 win at Charleston Southern on Tuesday night. In the win Dillon Morton had a career-high 4 RBI. He finished the night 3-for-4 at the dish, with a double in the first inning and a solo home run in the sixth.

Ty Hooks narrowly hangs on to the top spot in the Big South with his .410 batting average. Spencer Yankle continues to produce at the plate, going 6-for-15 in Winthrop's last three-game series against Radford. The senior produced six RBI, batting .400 in the series. Yankle leads the team with 19 RBI on the season and 11 doubles.

Winthrop's Game 1 starter, Tyler Jones, remains in the Top 10 in the Big South in ERA (3.48) and opposing batting average (.223).

The Runnin's Bulldogs most recently shut down the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, 15-4, in a midweek matchup. They have won just two of their last five contests.

Patrick Ferguson went 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in four runs in the win. Eric Jones also had a solid night at the dish, going 2-for-4 with three RBI of his own.

Gardner-Webb's Game 1 thrower, Mason Miller, is right in the thick of things with Jones, with a Big South-Top 10 ERA (3.26) and the third lowest opposing batting average (.208) in the conference. His 58 strikeouts is third most in the Big South. Miller enters the contest with a 3-1 record.

The Eagles currently hold a 24-17 all-time series lead over the Runnin' Bulldogs. Gardner-Webb defeated Winthrop on April 13 in 13 innings, 5-4, off a Ben LaSpaluto solo home run.

After this four-game stretch these teams are scheduled to meet one more time in the regular season, May 18, at the Winthrop Ballpark.
