These teams met on Feb. 23 at Founder's Park where the Gamecocks won the ballgame, 12-4. South Carolina posted seven solo homers, three off the bat of Wes Clarke who was 3-for-3 on the night. For the Eagles,

Winthrop will look to hand the Gamecocks their first loss of the young season, who enter the midweek matchup with a perfect 6-0 record. They swept Dayton to open the season and won back-to-back contests against Clemson, one in extra innings. Clarke earned his second consecutive National Player of the Week honor after his performance against Winthrop and Clemson.
The Eagles are coming off a weekend series against the Towson Tigers where they won 2-of-3 games. Winthrop dropped Game 1 of Saturday's double-header 7-2 before taking Game 2, 7-3. The Eagles won the rubber match 5-4 in 12 innings with a walk-off fielder's choice. Freshman
Andrew Jenner was hot at the plate, going 5-of-12 against the Tigers, batting .417 for the series. He also drove in two RBI.
A win for the Eagles would be their first since Mar. 17, 2015, when the Eagles beat the Gamecocks in 11 innings, 7-5. In 20 meetings, South Carolina currently holds a 15-6 all-time series lead.
