High Point Rockers And Truist Point To Host 2022 Ingles Big South Baseball Championship

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Big South Conference and High Point Downtown Stadium Foundation announced today an agreement to host the 2022 Ingles Big South Baseball Championship at the High Point Rockers' home ballpark of Truist Point in High Point, N.C. The six-team double-elimination tournament to determine the Big South's automatic bid recipient to the NCAA Championship will be held Wednesday-Saturday, May 25-28.

The Big South will have a neutral site location for its Baseball Championship for the sixth time in the past seven years within the league's footprint of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The $36 million facility opened in 2019 as the home of the new High Point Rockers baseball team of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. The ballpark has a seating capacity of 4,500 and includes suites and loge boxes, plus a feast of food & beverage options, playgrounds for kids, along with a unique brew pub at The High Pint. Truist Point also features the High Point University Vintage Seat Section -- seats from legendary ballparks such as Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, Rosenblatt Stadium, Fulton County Stadium, The Metrodome, Wrigley Field, Dodger Stadium, Citizens Bank Park and Oracle Park.

"We are very excited to welcome the Big South Conference to Truist Point as we continue the revitalization of downtown High Point," said Rockers' President Pete Fisch. "Truist Point is an outstanding ballpark that will be a memorable site for this prestigious college tournament. We would like to thank the Big South for selecting High Point and we look forward to welcoming the teams to Truist Point."

"Truist Point will be an incredible venue for the Ingles Big South Conference Baseball Championship," added Big South Commissioner Kyle Kallander. "It is a beautiful new fan-friendly ballpark, but most importantly it will provide an outstanding experience for our student-athletes. It is the perfect venue for our nationally competitive baseball programs. We are grateful to everyone involved with the High Point Rockers and Truist Point for their support of Big South baseball."

The 2022 Ingles Big South Baseball Championship will feature three games a day for the first three days, May 25-27, leading up to Saturday's Championship round of one-or-two games. All games will air on ESPN platforms, with exact distribution to be announced next Spring. Ticket pricing and seating availability will be announced in February.

The Big South Baseball Championship has been hosted at a neutral ballpark every year since 2016, with the exception of 2018. The conference tournament was previously held in High Point in 2012 at High Point University's Williard Stadium, and that event featured seven student-athletes that eventually reached the Major Leagues.

FIRST ADD – 2022 INGLES BIG SOUTH BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AT TRUIST POINT

Big South baseball enjoyed a successful 2021 campaign, as the league sent two teams -- Conference Champion Presbyterian and Regular-Season Champion Campbell -- to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2015 and 10th time overall.  Campbell played in the Regional Final for the second-straight time, while PC made its first-ever NCAA appearance. Six Big South student-athletes received All-America honors last season, while a conference-record six Big South programs earned ABCA Team Academic Excellence Awards. The Big South also had five players selected in the MLB Draft -- including three in the top nine rounds.

The Big South's baseball history includes the 2016 NCAA College World Series National Champion, and six former players in the Major Leagues in 2021 -- headlined by American League All-Star Cedric Mullins (Campbell) of the Baltimore Orioles.

"On behalf of the Big South baseball coaches, we are thrilled that the 2022 championship will take place at Truist Point," said Winthrop head baseball coach and Big South baseball coaches chair Tom Riginos. "Truist Point is one of the finest baseball facilities in the country and it is a true privilege for our student-athletes to compete there. We are extremely appreciative of the High Point Rockers for hosting this tournament and providing our student-athletes with an unforgettable experience."
