Winthrop and Western Carolina meet for the 43rd time with Winthrop having won the last matchup during the 2019-20 season. The Eagles won in Cullowhee by a score of 63-60.

A GLANCE AT WINTHROP
Eagles begin their season with a brand-new roster in head coach Semeka Randall Lay's first season as the permanent head coach. The team has seven new players, including six freshmen and a graduate transfer.

Winthrop began the 2021-22 season with four straight road contests, including two against Power Five opponents (Duke and Kentucky). The team returned home for five straight games, beginning with Division II opponents Coker and UNC Pembroke, and continues the homestand this week with games against UNCW and Western Carolina.

Winthrop is coming off a 6-18 (5-15 Big South) season in 2020-21 with Randall Lay in the interim head coach role. Season highlights included a road non-conference victory against South Carolina State and a home sweep of conference rival Charleston Southern.

Randall Lay is in her first season at the permanent helm of the program after serving as associate head coach and then interim head coach. Entering her 10th season as a head coach, she has served in the same role at Ohio University (2008-13) and Alabama A&M (2013-16).
