Eagles Travel To Nineteenth-Ranked Kentucky Sunday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Winthrop women's basketball will travel to nineteenth-ranked Kentucky on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. The matchup is the second all-time between the Eagles and Wildcats.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS KENTUCKY
Winthrop and Kentucky meet for the third time with the Wildcats having won both matchups. The teams last met early in the 2019-20 season with Kentucky taking a 91-36 victory.

A GLANCE AT WINTHROP
Eagles begin their season with a brand-new roster in head coach Semeka Randall Lay's first season as the permanent head coach. The team has seven new players, including six freshmen and a graduate transfer.
 
Winthrop is coming off a 6-18 (5-15 Big South) season in 2020-21 with Randall Lay in the interim head coach role. Season highlights included a road non-conference victory against South Carolina State and a home sweep of conference rival Charleston Southern.

Randall Lay is in her first season at the permanent helm of the program after serving as associate head coach and then interim head coach. Entering her 10th season as a head coach, she has served in the same role at Ohio University (2008-13) and Alabama A&M (2013-16).

BIG SOUTH PRESEASON POLL
Winthrop was voted to finish 11th in the Big South Conference preseason poll. High Point is the preseason favorite with 143 points (11 first-place votes) while Campbell was second with 121 points. They were followed by Longwood (119), North Carolina A&T (114 (one first-place vote)), Gardner-Webb (93), Radford (76), UNC Asheville and Presbyterian (70), Hampton (50), USC Upstate (38), the Eagles (23), and Charleston Southern (18).
