Eagles Look To Keep Things Rolling, Host Charleston Southern Jan. 29-30

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop women's basketball looks to keep things rolling when they welcome the Charleston Southern Buccaneers to the Coliseum on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30. Tip-off for both games is set for 1 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
Winthrop leads the all-time series 49-34, dating back to the 1977-78 season. The Eagles took both contests last season, a 58-53 win at the Buccaneer Field House and a 56-46 win at home. Winthrop has won four of the last five matchups heading into this series.

WINTHROP EAGLES
The Eagles found themselves back in the win column after splitting the season series with Hampton. In Game 1, the Pirates came out on top, 51-42. Despite the loss, Anika Riley had a memorable night, grabbing seven rebounds to move into 10th place on the program's all-time rebounds list. She now has 704 in her career. The Eagles took Game 2, 63-53. Riley led the way with 12 points, while J'Mani Ingram chipped in 11 off the bench. Winthrop shot a season-high 84 percent from the free throw line. The victory was powered by a 22-point first quarter, a season high for the opening 10 minutes. Winthrop continues to dominate on the boards, with a conference-leading +5.1 rebound margin.

NEW LEADER AT THE HELM
Semeka Randall Lay has taken over the Winthrop women's basketball program after serving as Associate Head Coach last season. Randall Lay in a 2000 graduate of the University of Tennessee, where she was an integral part of Tennessee's 1998 NCAA Championship team that went 39-0, averaging 15.9 points a game while earning honorable mention All-America recognition. She was drafted 17th overall in the 2001 WNBA draft by the Seattle Storm and spent four years in the league. Randall Lay brings eight years of head coaching experience with an overall career record of 67-176.

MILESTONE TRACKER
Anika Riley has taken sole possesion of 10th place on the program's all-time rebounds list. She now has 704 rebounds in her career. Graduate transfer Madison Ervin needs 125 points this season to record her 1,000 collegiate career point. She has made stops at Mars Hill, Cape Fear Community College and Georgia State. Junior Maleeah Langstaff is coming up on her 100th career assist, needing just 13 more to reach that milestone. 

CHARLESTON SOUTHERN BUCCANEERS 
Selected to finish 10th in the Big South preseason poll, the Buccaneers enter this weekend's contest with a 6-8 overall record and a 4-6 mark against Big South opponents. They are on a three-game losing skid. The Bucs have three players averaging double-figures: Sharita Godfrey (10.8), Carmella Walker (10.8) and Alyssia Faye (10.2) and lead the Big South in 3-point shooting percentage at just over 35 percent per game. Sharita Godfrey is one of the best 3-pointer shooters in the conference, shooting of 47 percent from deep. Fred Applin's squad has already doubled they're Big South win total from last season with wins over Hampton, Presyterian and UNC Asheville. Charleston Southern went 2-2 in non-conference matchups this season, falling to Florida and Davidson and defeating Columbia International and Western Carolina. Applin is in his 11th year at the helm of the Charleston Southern women's basketball program.
