ROCK HILL, S.C. - Coming off an 11-4 start in 2020, its best since 2009, Winthrop Baseball has released its 2021 schedule.
"I am very excited about our 2021 schedule, which took a tremendous amount of work from a lot of people," head coach
Tom Riginos said. "I feel like despite all the challenges, we have put together a very competitive schedule that will challenge our team each time we take the field."
Winthrop will open the season at home with a three-game non-conference matchup against Appalachian State (February 19-21). The Eagles will also welcome Towson to the Winthrop Ballpark for a three-game series on February 26 and 27.
The Eagles non-conference slate also includes a home and home series with the University of South Carolina (February 23 & March 2), as well as Wofford (May 5 & 18).Â
Winthrop's 2021 Big South schedule will feature 40 conference games, the most in Winthrop baseball history. Â
The Eagles will kick-off conference play at High Point on March 5 and 6 and will also make road trips to Longwood, Campbell, Radford, Charleston Southern and Gardner-Webb.
Winthrop will welcome Gardner-Webb, Campbell, Charleston Southern, USC Upstate, UNC Asheville, High Point and Longwood to the Winthrop Ballpark, before hosting Presbyterian College to close out the regular season May 21-22.
The 2021 Big South Baseball Tournament will feature the top four teams in the final conference standings, which will be held May 27-29 at SEGRA Stadium in Fayetteville, N.C. The champion receives the Big South's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
