Cooper, Stroud Named To Big South Women's Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Team

Rock Hill, S.C. – Marthaline Cooper and Jeanne Stroud have been voted to the Big South Conference 2010-19 Women's Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Team presented by Hercules Tires, the league office announced Monday.

This is the second Big South Conference 2010-19 All-Decade Team selection for both Cooper and Stroud.

Cooper earned All-America honors twice and was a three-time Big South Conference Champion in the hammer throw during her outdoor career. In 2016, Cooper finished third at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships to earn All-America honors for a second straight year. In 2015 she finished 10th at the NCAA Championship.

In 2017 at the NCAA Championships, Cooper used a career heave of 65.21m to place third, which stands as the second-best hammer throw in Big South history.
In June of 2017, Cooper was selected as the Big South Conference Field Athlete of the Year and then in July that year was named the Big South Conference Female Student-Athlete of the Year. Cooper was the first three-time winner of the Field Athlete of the Year award in Big South history (2015, 2016, 2017).

Cooper was also named to the 2010-19 Big South Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field All-Decade Team. Cooper enjoyed an impressive indoor career where she was a three-time Big South Champion and two-time All-America selection.

In 2013 Stroud captured first in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the Big South Conference Outdoor Championship. For her efforts she was named the Big South Conference Most Outstanding Track Performer. Stroud was also voted the 2013 Big South Conference Outdoor Scholar Athlete of the Year. She was named to the Big South All-Academic Team in 2013 and 2014.

She ran a personal best (35:10.44) in the 10,000m at the 2013 Raleigh Relays, which still holds as one of the Big South's Top 10 performances in the event.

Stroud was voted to the 2010-19 Big South Conference Women's Cross Country All-Decade Team. In cross country Stroud earned all-conference honors three times (2011, 2012, 2013). Stroud was named to the Big South All-Academic Team three straight years (2011, 2012, 2013) and was vote the Big South Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year twice (2012, 2013).

In addition to her success in outdoor, Stroud won the 5000m at the Big South Conference Indoor Championship in 2013 and was also named the 2013 Big South Indoor Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Cooper and Stroud join a distinguished list of former Winthrop Track & Field standouts. Angie Lanier and Kareshia Prioleau represent the Eagles on the 1994-99 All-Decade Team. The 2000-09 All-Decade Team features Octavia Goode and Tonya Harling.

The league's All-Decade Teams were first unveiled as part of the Big South's 30th Anniversary celebration in 2013-14 to recognize the student-athletes and coaches who excelled in their respective sport in each decade since the Conference's founding in 1983.

A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.  The 2010-19 Women's Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Team is listed below in alphabetical order by event and features eight sprinters/hurdlers, eight distance/mid-distance runners, eight jumpers, eight throwers, two heptathletes and one head coach.  In case of ties, additional honorees have been added.
