ROCK HILL, SC - Winthrop baseball's opening day is set for Friday, February 14 as the University of Maine pays a visit to the Winthrop Ballpark. The two schools will meet for the second series all time, with the first three meetings won by the Eagles February 17-19, 2017 at the Winthrop Ballpark.
Winthrop enters 2020 picked fourth in the Big South Conference, receiving one first place vote. The Eagles finished the 2019 season with a 34-23 record (18-9 Big South), eventually falling in the Big South Championship Game. Maine was picked sixth in the 2020 America East preseason poll, earning 13 points. The Black Bears went 15-34 last season (11-12 America East), eventually falling to Hartford in the America East Championships

Garrett Gainey, both Winthrop newcomers, rounding out the weekend rotation. Blair appeared in 13 games as a freshman at Spartanburg Methodist College, striking out 57 batters in 43.1 innings of work. Gainey was a 4A All Region Selection last year out of Hartsville High School, where he struck out 67 batters to the tune of a 1.64 ERA.
