Eagles Host UNC Asheville Tuesday Night Looking For Third Straight Win

SERIES/HISTORY v. UNC ASHEVILLE
The Eagles and Bulldogs will meet for the 75th time in history on Tuesday night. Winthrop currently leads the series, 39-35. Asheville has won eight of the last 10 meetings, winning the last eight games in a row. When these teams met in Asheville during the 2018-19 season, the Bulldogs won 70-36. Zip Scott led Asheville's offense with 14 points. Three other players also finished in double figures. When these teams faced off in Rock Hill, Asheville left with a 55-43 win. Winthrop was led by Anika Riley, who contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds. Nadiria Evans led the scoring for Asheville with 17 points.

WINTHROP
The Eagles improved to 9-9 overall, 6-3 in conference play with a 58-53 win at Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon. Jah'Che Whitfield led the offense with 14 points. She also contributed 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Maleeah Langstaff (10), Anika Riley (10) and Destinee Jamison-Whtifield (10) all finished in double figures. Winthrop women's basketball has a 32.7 3-point field goal percentage, which currently leads the Big South Conference. The Eagles will be on the hunt for their third-straight win and to improve to 5-3 at home this season when they host the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

UNC ASHEVILLE
The Bulldogs are coming off a loss to Longwood, 73-56, on Saturday afternoon. The offense was led by junior Amaryah Corpening, who recorded a career-high 21 points. She also contributed three assists, two blocks and two steals. Brooke Jordan-Brown led the squad with seven boards. She also leads the conference in rebounds, averaging 10.1 a game. Asheville will look to get back in the win column when it travels to Rock Hill after losing three straight contests to Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb and Longwood. The Bulldogs are now 11-7 overall and 5-4 in conference play. They are led by eight year head coach, Brenda Kirkpatrick Brown.

500-REBOUND CLUB HAS A NEW MEMBER
Anika Riley eclipsed 500 career rebounds during Winthrop's game against Gardner-Webb on Monday, Jan. 6. The junior guard is the 18th player in Winthrop women's basketball history to record 500+ career rebounds. Riley is ranked seventh in the conference, averaging 6.6 boards a game.
