Women's Basketball Set To Host Longwood On Tuesday Night

ROCK HILL, S.C.—  Winthrop women's basketball will return home to host Longwood on Tuesday night. Both teams will look to turn things around after dropping their last two contests. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. at the Coliseum.

SERIES/HISTORY v. LONGWOOD
Winthrop and Longwood will meet for the 22nd time in history on Tues­day evening. The Eagles currently lead the series 13-8. These teams only met once during the 2018-19 season and it was the first game of Big South Conference play. The Eagles came out on the winning side, 77-69. Winthrop had three players finish in double-figures: Kem Nwabudu (20), Jah'Che Whitfield (19) and Miquela Santoro (10). For the Lancers, four players finished in double-figures led by Mallory Odell with 17 points. Dayna Rouse notched a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

WINTHROP
Winthrop is coming off a tough loss to Radford on Saturday afternoon. After fighting back from a nine-point deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter for the first time in the contest, Jah'Che Whitfield's game-winning 3-point attempt as time expired was no good and the Eagles lost, 54-53. Kem Nwabudu led the offense with a season-high 20 points, while Whitfield finished with 16 points of her own. The Eagles return home 4-3 in conference play, 7-9 overall.

LONGWOOD
Longwood enters Tuesday's contest coming off a 76-69 loss to High Point on Saturday. The Lancers were led by Dayna Rouse who recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Kyla McMakin and Tra'dayja Smith both finished in double figures as well with 17 and 10 respectively. The Lancers are 8-8 overall this season and 4-3 in Big South conference play. They are led by second year head coach, Rebecca Tillett.

500-REBOUND CLUB HAS A NEW MEMBER
Anika Riley eclipsed 500 career rebounds during Winthrop's game against Gardner-Webb on Monday, Jan. 6. The junior guard is the 18th player in Winthrop women's basketball history to record 500+ career rebounds. Riley is ranked seventh in the conference, averaging 6.4 boards a game.

WINTHROP SPORTS SHOW AT ROCO
Joins us on Mondays at The Roasting Company throughout the basketball season for the Winthrop Sports Show at ROCO hosted by the voices of the Winthrop Eagles Dave Friedman and Mike Pacheco. The two will sit down weekly with head coaches Pat Kelsey and Lynette Woodard as well as other selected guests throughout the season. The show is from 6-6:30 p.m. and airs live on 94.3 FM & 104.1 The Bridge.
